The Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA) has reported a significant slope failure at One Pole, Allen Town, along the Wellington-Masiaka Highway.
According to a joint inspection by the SLRA and China Railway Seventh Group (CRSG), the incident resulted from unauthorized excavation at the edge of the road.
In a press release issued on 29 July 2024, SLRA stated, “We have discovered that the slope failure was caused by illegal excavation activities. We have arrested at least one individual involved in these actions, and they are currently assisting the police with their investigation.”
The SLRA is collaborating with CRSG to address the situation urgently. “We are working swiftly with our partners to remedy the situation and restore normalcy,” the authority added.
In response to the incident, a section of the right-hand side of the road, from Orogu Bridge towards Furniture Junction, has been temporarily closed to traffic to facilitate emergency repairs.
The public is advised to adhere to on-site traffic regulations.
To mitigate congestion, commuters are advised to use the Grafton-Furniture Road (the Old Road) during peak hours.
The SLRA expressed regret for any inconvenience caused and assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issue promptly.the
“We sincerely apologize for the disruptions and appreciate the public’s cooperation during this time,” the SLRA management concluded.
Thank to the authorities in charge for their immediate response.
One of the concern I hav for the road construction is that, the water drainages are very narrow, they are easily filled up during the rains.
