The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially launched an investigation into corruption allegations surrounding the Clerk of Parliament, Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally, and his wife, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally.
ACC made this known in a press release dated 14 January 2024.
The ACC is delving into claims that the Clerk of Parliament irregularly employed his wife, bypassing due process.
Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally’s absence from duties despite receiving salaries, prompting suspicions of Conflict of Interest and potential misuse of her husband’s position.
As investigations unfold, Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally, as a condition of her bail, has returned One Hundred and Thirty Thousand (New) Leones (Le 131,000) out of the One Hundred and Fifty-Six Thousand (New) Leones (Le 156,000) she received as salary during her ten-month tenure, according to records obtained from the Account-General.
Both Hon. Paran Umar Tarawally and Mrs. Abibatu Tarawally are currently on bail, awaiting further developments in the ongoing investigation.
The ACC emphasizes its steadfast commitment to safeguarding state resources and assures the public of its resolute determination in this matter.
