Abdulai Caulker, National Security Coordinator (NSCoord), representing the Office of National Security (ONS), has issued a public notice regarding intelligence reports indicating plans for an unlawful protest on January 17th and 18th, 2024.
The purpose behind the protest remains unclear, but investigations reveal the involvement of elements seeking to disrupt Sierra Leone’s peace and tranquility.
In his capacity as NSCoord, entrusted with coordinating security sector efforts to protect lives, properties, and internal integrity, Caulker emphasized that the ONS is resolute in preventing any attempts to undermine the hard-won peace achieved after decades of turmoil.
The security agency asserts its capability to thwart any endeavors by miscreants to reverse the nation’s progress.
Furthermore, the ONS is cognizant of individuals habitually spreading scurrilous, fake, and damaging stories about Sierra Leone on social media. The agency vows to explore various means to hold these individuals accountable, aiming to counteract their efforts to drive away foreign investors and sow division within the nation.
Despite these concerns, Caulker reassures citizens and foreigners, urging them to continue their normal activities.
The ONS, in collaboration with security agencies, asserts its well-structured capabilities to detect and prevent security threats throughout Sierra Leone. Businesses are advised to rely on authentic information from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education, dismissing misinformation that may compromise unity, stability, and national cohesion.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious activities or issues by calling the toll-free number 119, emphasizing collective responsibility in maintaining the safety and security of Sierra Leone and its people.
