Freetown, Sierra Leone – June 24, 2025 – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has officially taken over an investigation initially handled by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) concerning an alleged revenue diversion scandal at the National Revenue Authority (NRA).
In a statement issued by the ACC, the Commission confirmed it is now leading inquiries into what it describes as a “deliberate attempt to divert government revenue,” reportedly involving collusion between certain NRA staff and external actors.
The move follows a press release from the NRA dated June 20, 2025, signed by the Commissioner-General, which highlighted the seriousness of the matter.
The statement alleged that “the collusion of certain staff with external actors reportedly including commercial bank tellers and unpatriotic citizens” was aimed at diverting public funds away from state coffers.
ACC officials have called on all persons of interest—particularly those who may have fled the country—to report immediately to the Commission’s Integrity House in Tower Hill, Freetown.
“The Commission wishes to make it abundantly clear that any failure to cooperate with investigators may result in immediate arrests and detention without further notice,” the statement warned.
It further urged the NRA, commercial banks, taxpayers, and clearing and forwarding agencies to collaborate fully with the investigation.
The ACC also issued a stern caution to anyone considering obstructing the ongoing probe.
“Any attempt to interfere with our work will be treated as obstruction of justice under the Anti-Corruption Act of 2008, as amended in 2019. This is a serious offence that carries significant legal consequences,” the Commission emphasized.
In concluding its release, the ACC reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to fighting corruption and safeguarding public resources.
“We remain resolute in our mission to protect public funds and public revenue. The people of Sierra Leone deserve nothing less,” the Commission stated.
