Amadu Koita, a key figure behind the failed November 26 coup d’état has been apprehended.
Sources reveal that Koita was discovered concealed in an underground basement belonging to a female CID Police officer in Freetown.
The retired military officer was taken into custody at an underground location situated in Mount Aureol, Freetown.
The arrest follows a series of coordinated attacks on a military armoury, two barracks, two prisons, and two police stations by armed assailants on the early morning of November 26.
The intense clashes resulted in a tragic toll, with 21 casualties, including 14 soldiers, a policeman, a prison guard, a security guard, a woman, and three assailants, as reported by Information Minister Chernor Bah.
Currently, 14 soldiers and one civilian suspected of involvement in the coup are in detention.
Police have identified 32 men and two women as “fugitives,” releasing their photos and names, among them serving and retired soldiers and police officers. A “handsome reward” is promised to individuals providing information leading to the capture of these wanted individuals.
