In a significant operation conducted by the Flying Squad on September 11, 2023, “LeMatinal” reports that three Sierra Leonean nationals have been apprehended for alleged drug trafficking in Port-Louis, Mauritius.
The detained individuals have been identified as Daniel Tamba Moiba (38 years old, electrical engineer), James Koroma (36 years old, businessman), and Fatmata Alima Bangura (21 years old, student).
The operation was initiated on rue Saint Denis in Port-Louis at approximately 2:50 pm, following a tip-off concerning the involvement of foreign nationals in illicit activities.
During a search, Moiba was intercepted while attempting to enter his Honda car and was found to be in possession of 9.10 grams of cocaine. Koroma and Bangura, who were also in the vehicle, were subsequently escorted to the Flying Squad office for further inquiry.
Upon further investigation, authorities discovered six parcels of cocaine and Rs 10,000 in the glove compartment of the car, suspected to be proceeds from drug sales.
A search of the residence in Butte à L’Herbe, Grand Gaube, where Moiba and Koroma resided, resulted in the seizure of 17 resealable sachets intended for drug distribution. However, no substantial evidence was uncovered during the search of Bangura’s residence in Palma, Quatre-Bornes.
Following their arrests, Moiba was initially held at the Piton detention center and later transferred to Vacoas, while Bangura was detained at the Moka detention center.
On September 12, all three individuals were presented before the Port-Louis court, where they faced provisional drug trafficking charges before being returned to their respective holding cells.
