The Grace Vision Agricultural Project continues to make significant strides in agricultural development at Makarie Town in Bombali District, contributing to Sierra Leone’s growing efforts to increase local food production and reduce dependence on imported food.
Executive Director and founder Madam Grace Kamara noted by saying that the project is driven by a clear vision to support the Government of Sierra Leone in its efforts to feed the nation through increased agricultural production, investment and community participation.
With agriculture at the centre of Sierra Leone’s food-security agenda, initiatives such as Grace Vision are playing an increasingly important role in transforming farming from subsistence activity into a more productive and sustainable economic sector.
The continued expansion of agricultural activities in Bombali comes at a time when the Government, through its Feed Salone programme, is encouraging farmers, private investors, development partners and communities to increase domestic food production. Bombali has strong agricultural potential, particularly in rice and other food crops, making the district an important contributor to national food security.
Grace Vision’s agricultural intervention is therefore positioned to contribute to this broader national objective by putting productive land into use, supporting farming activities and encouraging greater attention to agriculture as a pathway to food security, employment and rural development. The project coordinator Mamoud Janneh emphasized that
Beyond food production, agricultural projects in Bombali have the potential to create opportunities for young people, women and farming communities while stimulating local economic activity. Previous agricultural initiatives in the district have demonstrated how investment in farming can generate employment, strengthen farmer livelihoods and improve the availability of locally produced food.
The progress being made by Grace Vision also reflects the growing importance of private-sector and community-led agricultural investment in Sierra Leone. Government alone cannot achieve national food sufficiency; sustained collaboration between farmers, private agricultural investors, communities, financial institutions and development partners remains essential.
As the Grace Vision Agricultural Project continues to expand, stakeholders believe that its activities can contribute meaningfully to the transformation of Bombali’s agricultural landscape and to the wider national campaign for food self-sufficiency.
The project’s message is simple but powerful: Sierra Leone has the land and the people to produce more of the food it consumes. What is needed is continued investment, modern farming techniques, access to agricultural inputs, financing, machinery, markets and strong partnerships.
For Grace Vision, the journey continues with one overarching objective to help Sierra Leone produce enough food to feed its people while creating sustainable opportunities for farming communities.
As agricultural development gathers momentum across Bombali District, the success of initiatives such as Grace Vision could become an important part of Sierra Leone’s broader journey towards a more food-secure and economically empowered nation.
