Freetown – The Management of the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has handed over dedicated patrol vehicles to its Safety and Security Departments to improve operational capacity at the Queen Elizabeth II Quay.
Director General Yankuba Askia Bio formally presented one vehicle to each department on Wednesday, 26 August 2026. The vehicles are intended to support regular patrols, enable faster responses to incidents, and strengthen monitoring of port facilities.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Director General Bio said the provision of the vehicles reflects Management’s commitment to equipping staff with the resources needed to perform their duties effectively.
He emphasised that safety and security remain essential to the smooth and efficient running of the port, adding that a modern port must be able to monitor its facilities, identify risks and respond quickly to emerging situations.
Bio urged the Safety and Security teams to use the vehicles productively and to remain proactive in carrying out their responsibilities.
The handover forms part of SLPHA Management’s wider efforts to improve operational efficiency, safety and security at Sierra Leone’s main seaport.
