The High Court in Kono District, Eastern Sierra Leone, on Monday, June 15, 2026, sentenced Amos Aidan Daniel to life imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to sexually penetrating a two-year-old girl.
The judgment was delivered by Justice Santigie Ibrahim Sorie Bangura, who imposed a life sentence on count one and 10-year prison terms on each of counts two and three under the Sexual Offences Act 2012, as amended in 2019.
Court documents state that the offence occurred on March 4, 2026, when Daniel committed sexual penetration against a child below the age of 18.
Prosecutor C.R. Sesay told the court that the accused had a previous criminal record and urged the judge to consider it during sentencing.
In mitigation, defence counsel A.O. Kamara acknowledged the defendant’s earlier conviction for wounding with intent and appealed for leniency, noting that Daniel had confessed to police and cooperated with investigators.
However, Justice Bangura described the offence as “despicable,” stressing its severe and lasting impact on the victim. He noted that the child’s future prospects, including the possibility of becoming a professional or leader, had been gravely affected by the crime.
The court’s decision of life imprisonment on count one and 10 years each on counts two and three reflects the seriousness of the offence and reinforces judicial commitment to protecting children from sexual violence in Sierra Leone.
