Freetown, Sierra Leone — The All People’s Congress (APC), Sierra Leone’s main opposition party, is in mourning following the death of its National Chairman, Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray.
According to party sources and statements, Mansaray passed away in Senegal after a prolonged illness. His remains have been transferred to a mortuary, with arrangements underway for repatriation to Sierra Leone for a dignified burial.
Hon. Abdul Kargbo, APC Leader in Parliament, confirmed the developments, stating: “The remains of our beloved Chairman have now been taken to the mortuary, while arrangements are underway to convey his body to Sierra Leone for a dignified burial.” He described the loss as a “painful moment” for the APC family and the entire nation.

He also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, praying for strength and comfort in this difficult time.
A Veteran Politician and Party Stalwart
Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray was a prominent Sierra Leonean politician, businessman, and longtime APC member. Born in Tonkolili District, he built a career in the insurance sector, serving as an executive at the Sierra Leone National Insurance Company before entering full-time politics.
His political journey included key ministerial roles under former President Ernest Bai Koroma. He served as Minister of Labour (2007–2010) and later as Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources. In 2012, he was elected deputy leader of the APC, and he rose to become National Chairman in 2023, defeating other contenders decisively.
As a senior figure in the APC’s National Advisory Council, Mansaray played a pivotal role in party affairs, emphasizing unity, resilience, and strategic planning amid internal and external challenges. He was known for his efforts to maintain party cohesion following the 2023 elections and for his business acumen in public service.
Mansaray had recently been receiving medical treatment, including a trip to India in 2025, amid recurring health concerns and public speculation.
Reactions and Broader Context
Chief Minister Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, from the ruling Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), paid tribute to Mansaray as “a good man” with whom he had worked closely, extending condolences to the family and the opposition party.
Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio also reacted to the passing of APC’s National Chairman, Hon. Minkailu Mansaray. On behalf of the Government and people of Sierra Leone, and the Sierra Leone People’s Party, I extend my heartfelt condolences to his family, the APC, and all who mourn his demise. May his soul rest in perfect peace.”
The passing of Mansaray comes at a sensitive time for the APC as it navigates its role as the main opposition ahead of future electoral cycles. Party members and supporters have expressed deep sorrow, viewing him as a dedicated servant who rose through the ranks from the Youth League to the highest leadership positions.
Further details on funeral arrangements, the exact cause of death, and any state or party honors are expected to be released by the Mansaray family and APC leadership in the coming days.
