Freetown, Sierra Leone – April 29, 2026
The All People’s Congress (APC) has announced that its elected officials will return to Parliament and Local Councils in line with the outcomes of a joint assessment mission by the International Moral Guarantors in Sierra Leone.
In a press statement issued today, April 29, 2026, and signed by the party’s National Secretary General, Lansana Dumbuya, Esq., the APC stated that the decision was taken “in good faith and in honour of the commitments” outlined in the communiqué issued by the International Moral Guarantors.
The statement reads in part: “The All People’s Congress (APC) wishes to inform its members, supporters, and the general public that, following the conclusions and agreed outcomes contained in the communiqué issued by the International Moral Guarantors after their joint assessment mission in Sierra Leone, the Opposition has taken the decision to return to Parliament and all Local Councils.”
According to the APC, its Members of Parliament will resume participation at the next sitting of Parliament, while all APC representatives in Local Councils are to return to their duties with immediate effect.
The party further called on the Government of Sierra Leone to demonstrate equal commitment by urgently:
– Laying the Agreement for National Unity and the Tripartite Committee Report before Parliament, to ensure transparency, legitimacy, and national ownership of their implementation;
– Facilitating the immediate establishment of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Electoral Matters, as agreed, to review the electoral cycle, strengthen electoral preparedness, and guide necessary reforms ahead of the 2028 elections without prejudice to Section 32(11) of the Constitution.
The APC emphasized that these actions are “not optional but form part of a structured roadmap towards restoring trust, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring inclusive governance.”
The party reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement, accountability, and reforms that will guarantee credible elections and national stability. However, it warned that “cooperation must be reciprocal” and that the sustainability of the process depends on the timely and genuine implementation of all agreed measures.
“We therefore urge all stakeholders, including Government, Parliament, and oversight institutions, to act with urgency and sincerity in fulfilling their obligations,” the statement added.
The APC concluded by stating that it will continue to act in the interest of peace, democracy, and the people of Sierra Leone.
This development marks a significant shift, potentially ending a period of boycott by the main opposition party and opening the way for renewed political dialogue and participation in governance structures ahead of future electoral processes.
