In a significant development, Court of Appeal Judge, Justice Alhaji Momoh-Jah Stevens, has ordered the release of 23 individuals held at the Pademba Road Correctional Centre in Freetown.
This decision comes as part of the ongoing efforts to review cases from the Magistrates’ Courts within the Prison Courts system.
During the proceedings, Justice Stevens also took action in other cases. Notably, he cautioned and discharged two individuals accused of Larceny and Malicious Damage.
He expressed concern over the injustice of holding these individuals since September 2023 without a complainant coming forward.
Furthermore, the judge discharged accused Ibrahim Koroma due to a lack of prosecution. He noted that there had been no trial for three months in Ibrahim’s case. The charges against Ibrahim involved the alleged theft of a Samsung mobile phone valued at NLe.4,000.
