The Premier League Board, led by Chairman Victor Lewis, convened a significant dialogue session with representatives from Bo Rangers and East End Lions ahead of their Leone Rock Premier League match scheduled for Saturday, May 25, 2024, at the Approved School Playing Field.
The gathering, which included football stakeholders from the National Sports Authority, Ministry of Sports, Sierra Leone Football Association, and Sierra Leone Police, aimed to establish measures to prevent a recurrence of the violence witnessed during the FA Cup Final in Port Loko.
Chairman Victor Lewis stressed the importance of such dialogues, emphasizing that violence has no place in our sport and urging both East End Lions and Bo Rangers to ensure their supporters maintain peace at all costs.
Anthony Junior Navo, speaking on behalf of East End Lions, highlighted the necessity of the meeting, stating their commitment to producing a sensitization video for their supporters to uphold a peaceful atmosphere during and after the match.
Bo Rangers Chairman Babadi Kamara reaffirmed their commitment to playing quality football, emphasizing their brotherhood with East End Lions in the realm of football. He also called for the PLB to ensure adequate security for all clubs.
Reassuring the peace and stability in sport, the Deputy Executive Director of National Sports Authority Dr. Abdulrahman Swaray and the Director of Sports, Ministry of Sports Haroun Korjie respectively expressed concerns on the spate of violence in country’s football.
Representing the safety and security of the state, Superintendent Durosemi Peeler, Officer in Charge for Kissy Division, assured the public of a peaceful and conducive match between East End Lions and Bo Rangers. He pledged sufficient security personnel would adhere to football safety and security protocols.
The Premier League Board assured all stakeholders that the East End Lions vs. Bo Rangers match on Saturday would be conducted peacefully, reaffirming that football is a sport of peace.
