The Honorable Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh inaugurated the 2025 Budget hearings yesterday at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown.
The hearings aim to frame discussions on the policy directions guiding the upcoming budget.
In his keynote address, Vice President Jalloh emphasized that the budget is crucial for advancing the “Big Five Game Changers” agenda.
He urged Ministers, senior government officials, and budget controllers to focus on building upon the achievements of President Dr. Julius Maada Bio’s first term, particularly in human capital development.
Dr. Jalloh highlighted significant advancements in education, healthcare, governance, infrastructure, and security sector support. Looking ahead to 2025, he reiterated the government’s priorities, including “Feed Salone” and job creation.
The Vice President commended the Minister of Finance and his team for their efforts in stabilizing the economy and improving service delivery. However, he cautioned against any tax increases, advocating instead for better tax management.
Dr. Jalloh also recommended reducing budgetary allocations to the energy sector and urged improvements in the governance of utilities to minimize technical and commercial losses.
Concluding his statement, Dr. Jalloh expressed confidence in a positive economic outlook and a bright future for the country.
