Chief Inspector Augustine Musa Anthony has disclosed the identity of the owner of the vehicle involved in a tragic hit-and-run accident that occurred on Sunday at approximately 11:00 AM along Wilkinson Road near Cole Farm Junction.
The incident resulted in the death of a pedestrian.
The revelation was made in a report addressed to the Director of Traffic Management and Road Safety and copied to the Regional Police Commander, Free Town West, the National Traffic Coordinator, and the Senior Investigating Officer.
Chief Inspector Anthony identified the vehicle as a Toyota FJ Cruiser Jeep with registration number ARD 999, owned by Mrs. Wulailatu Sannoh of 6 Salman Drive, Aberdeen, Freetown.
He added that the vehicle struck and fatally injured Mohamed Kawa of 7 Old Railway Line, Tengbeh Town, Freetown.
Inspector Anthony noted that Kawa sustained severe injuries from the impact and was pronounced dead shortly after the incident. His body has been transported to the Connaught Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.
According to the report, rhe driver of the vehicle, Lukeman Koroma, fled the scene and is currently at large. The police have since impounded the vehicle involved in the crash.
Authorities have confirmed that an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident is ongoing.
