In a somber announcement, the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ) mourns the sudden demise of their esteemed colleague, Stephen Douglas, who succumbed to a heart attack on Sunday, November 26, 2023, at the 34 Military Hospital in Freetown.
Mr. Douglas, the Editor of News Watch Newspaper and a former Editor of Awoko newspaper, held a significant role as an Associate Member within SLAJ.
SLAJ President Ahmed Sahid Nasralla expressed deep shock, revealing that Douglas had actively participated in a professional WhatsApp group earlier that morning, discussing the country’s security situation.
Nasralla reflected on Douglas’s contributions, stating, “He has been an amazing associate member of SLAJ, always ready to serve. We will surely miss his critical mind. What a loss!”
Stephen Douglas, a Canadian journalist who embraced Sierra Leone as his new home, was a dedicated professional, always on his motorbike to capture firsthand stories.
The SLAJ Secretariat extends heartfelt condolences to Mr. Douglas’s family in Freetown and Canada.
May he rest in perfect peace.
