Thursday, 16 July 2026 — A joint security operation conducted by personnel from the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) resulted in the arrest of three suspects at the Mile 38 Checkpoint for allegedly possessing a bale of dried leaves suspected to be Cannabis Sativa, commonly known as jamba.
The operation was led by Superintendent Foday Sorie Fofanah, Officer Commanding at the Mile 38 Checkpoint, whose vigilance was instrumental in intercepting the suspects.
The individuals detained are identified as:
– Hassan Mansaray of Hastings
– Foday Mansaray of Hastings
– Mohamed Kamara, motorcycle rider with registration number AZX 348
According to reports, as the motorcycle approached the checkpoint, Hassan and Foday Mansaray disembarked and attempted to evade security screening by carrying the bale on their heads on foot. Meanwhile, Mohamed Kamara, the rider, continued toward the checkpoint, seemingly trying to give the impression that he was traveling alone.
Superintendent Fofanah noticed their suspicious behaviour and promptly alerted his team. A swift pursuit led to the suspects’ arrest and the recovery of the suspected cannabis.
The suspects and the exhibit are currently in police custody as investigations continue.
This operation underscores the commitment of the Sierra Leone Police to combat drug trafficking and protect communities from the dangers of illicit substances.
