Jeremiah Thoronka, a Sierra Leonean innovator, has been named to the prestigious FORBES AFRICA 30 UNDER 30 list for 2024.
This list celebrates young visionaries across Africa who are pioneering change through innovative achievements in various sectors.
At just 24 years old, Thoronka is making significant strides in the field of renewable energy with his company, Optim Energy, which he founded in 2017.
He has gained international recognition for developing a device that converts kinetic energy from pedestrian and street traffic vibrations into clean, renewable energy. This technology has been successfully implemented in multiple African countries including Sierra Leone, Rwanda, and Kenya, showcasing the practical applications of his innovative approach to energy generation.
Thoronka’s efforts have not only contributed to environmental sustainability but have also earned him the Chegg.org Global Student Prize in 2021, recognizing his impact on global education through his work.
Joining Thoronka on the list are other notable young leaders such as Victor Oshimen from Nigeria, South African musician Tyla, educational entrepreneur Luke Mostert from South Africa, and Kenyan activist Arooj Sheikh, among others. Each has made remarkable contributions to their respective fields, collectively shaping a new narrative for Africa’s future.
