In a determined bid to tackle the scourge of illicit narcotics, a unified front of security forces orchestrated a dramatic incineration of confiscated contraband at the Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024.
The collaborative effort, which saw the participation of law enforcement, military personnel, the Office of National Security (ONS), media representatives, civil society organizations, traditional leaders, and the District Magistrate, underscored a resolute stance against the proliferation of harmful substances within the community.
The solemn ceremony marked the obliteration of significant quantities of KUSH, CANNABIS SATIVA, and TRAMADOL, all intercepted and seized as part of ongoing operations targeting drug offenders. Following the fiery spectacle, a total of 23 individuals found guilty of unlawful possession of these banned substances faced swift justice, with sentences handed down and their confiscated stash consigned to the flames.
Among the illicit haul destroyed were 1,620 wraps of suspected cannabis sativa, 2,980 wraps of green plant material identified as kush, and a staggering 3,400 units of tramadol. The obliteration of these narcotics represents a substantial blow to the illegal drug trade plaguing the district.
In the wake of this high-profile crackdown, the collective efforts of security forces and allied stakeholders signal a decisive step forward in safeguarding communities against the pernicious influence of narcotics.
