Emmanuel Christian Thorli, the proprietor and managing editor of Night Watch Newspaper, was apprehended and taken into custody on Friday night in connection with a recent publication.
Reports suggest that Thorli’s arrest stems from a controversial article published on Wednesday, February 21, 2024, titled “We Cannot Wait for Bio to Continue in Power until 2028 – Sierra Leoneans.”
This isn’t the first time Thorli has found himself in trouble for his journalistic endeavors. Back in December 2022, he was similarly detained by the Sierra Leone Police at the Criminal Investigation Department.
Adding to the intrigue, Thorli, also known as Alpha, previously revealed an altercation with Njala University staff in September 2022, which resulted in condemnation from the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ).
While reactions from the public vary, the Sierra Leone Sports Writers Association has vehemently condemned Thorli’s arrest, urging authorities for his immediate release.
May God safely remove you from this problem and continue your good work
