In a significant leadership change within Sierra Leone’s Parliament, Hon. Segepoh Solomon Thomas Esq., Speaker of Parliament, announced on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, that Mr. Gilbert Bosco Nhabay has been appointed as the new Deputy Clerk and Acting Clerk of Parliament.
This appointment follows the retirement of the former Deputy Clerk, Mr. Mohamed Lebbie.
The Speaker clarified that Mr. Nhabay’s appointment was a result of a unanimous decision by the Parliamentary Commission. He instructed Members of Parliament to direct all administrative matters to the newly appointed Acting Clerk.
Mr. Nhabay brings over two decades of experience across various roles in both the private and public sectors.
His expertise spans program development, administration, management, operations, and research in diverse thematic areas. His skills in interpersonal communication, strategic thinking, and management are well-recognized.
Academically, Mr. Nhabay holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration and International Development and a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics from the University of Sierra Leone. His extensive career includes positions such as Director of SOS Sierra Leone Village, Acting Deputy Country Director of PLAN International, and National Project Support Manager for the British Council’s DFID-sponsored Justice Sector Development Programme.
His leadership journey is notable, with early roles as Senior Prefect at Bo School, President of the Southern Province Schools Union, and President of the National Union of Sierra Leone Students. Additionally, he is an alumnus of the InterAction Leadership Programme by the British Council and Questions of Difference.
Mr. Nhabay is married and a father of three, bringing both professional and personal strengths to his new role in Parliament.
