The Office of the Clerk of Parliament has issued a public notice outlining new regulations for visitors to the Parliament of Sierra Leone.
These measures, which take effect on October 31, 2024, are intended to enhance security within the parliamentary precincts.
Key points include:
1. Visitors must be formally dressed to gain entry into Parliament.
2. A valid form of identification, such as a passport, national identity card, or driver’s license, is required.
3. All visitors are required to sign a Visitors Book and hand over their ID to an Officer of the House, in exchange for a visitor’s tag.
4. Visitors will receive their identification back upon returning the tag after their visit.
5. Only Ministers, Diplomats, and Journalists are permitted to bring phones into the Chamber of Parliament. All other visitors must leave their phones at the Main Entrance, where they will be returned after the visit.
The Office emphasized that these measures are not meant to restrict access but to ensure the safety and security of both citizens and non-citizens visiting Parliament.
