On Tuesday, 6 January 2026, the Inspector General of Police, Mr William Fayia Sellu, led a joint enforcement operation to remove makeshift structures and curb unlawful trading activities across key locations in Freetown West.
The operation was conducted alongside the Regional Police Commander Freetown West, Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Sylvester M. N. Koroma, with the participation of the Director of Operations, the Head of the Operation Support Division (OSD), and Local Unit Commanders (LUCs) from the Central and Congo Cross Police Divisions.
Carried out in line with the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ checklist on lawlessness and indiscipline, the exercise targeted illegal structures at Hill Cot Road Car Wash, an area identified as a hotspot for drug peddling and incidents of bag snatching.
Officers also enforced a push-back against unauthorised traders encroaching on public walkways along Hill Station, Rue De La Preux (IMAAT), Congo Dam–Chimpanzee Park Junction, and Regent.
The operation was executed peacefully and professionally, in accordance with established policing standards.
It was observed by members of the media and community stakeholders, underscoring the Sierra Leone Police’s commitment to maintaining public order, enhancing urban safety, and supporting government efforts to address lawlessness and indiscipline.
