Freetown, January 7, 2026 — Sierra Leone’s Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has detained three staff members of the National Revenue Authority (NRA) on charges of embezzling approximately NLe300 million through irregularities in the ASYCUDA customs management system.
The arrests mark a significant development in the ACC’s ongoing investigation into financial misconduct at the revenue agency, where the suspects, attached to the automated customs department, are accused of systematically diverting substantial public funds.
In a related but separate probe, the Commission is also examining claims of illegal sales of diplomatic and service passports at the Immigration Department, with several persons of interest already attending interviews.
Abubakarr Turay, ACC Director of Public Education and Outreach, confirmed both active investigations to the press, stressing the Commission’s commitment to holding perpetrators accountable.
These cases reflect heightened efforts to combat corruption in key revenue-generating institutions, as authorities aim to safeguard public resources and bolster transparency in governance.
