FREETOWN – Former Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC), Dr. Samura Matthew Wilson Kamara, has called for renewed unity, integrity, and active citizenship as Sierra Leone marked its 64th Independence anniversary.
Delivering a national address to commemorate the occasion, Dr. Kamara urged Sierra Leoneans to honor the sacrifices of past generations by committing themselves to the country’s development. “Independence is not merely a celebration of history, but a responsibility to shape our future,” he emphasized.
Reflecting on the nation’s journey, Dr. Kamara acknowledged the resilience of Sierra Leoneans, describing their spirit as “unstoppable” in the face of adversity. He appealed particularly to the youth to reject divisiveness and embrace national service, urging, “Let us choose unity over conflict.”
The former APC leader laid out a vision for a prosperous Sierra Leone where every citizen has access to dignity and opportunity. He stressed that collective effort is essential in making justice, prosperity, and peace a reality for all.
“On this Independence Day, I reaffirm my commitment to building a Sierra Leone that serves every citizen,” he declared.
Dr. Kamara also challenged citizens to see Independence Day not just as a moment of celebration, but as a call to action.
He advocated for a “new covenant” grounded in integrity, service, and shared sacrifice, encouraging Sierra Leoneans to unite their strengths to overcome national challenges.
Addressing the political climate, Dr. Kamara criticized the spread of propaganda and unfulfilled promises, urging leaders to uphold accountability and citizens to demand honesty in public affairs.
Concluding his address, he offered blessings to the nation, saying, “May God bless you all. May God bless the Republic of Sierra Leone. Long live Sierra Leone!”

Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara’ behavior is not part of cohesion policy nor could it be tolerated in any form as a democracy.
Samura Mathew Wilson Kamara is not, and I repeat NOT a president. He is not even an opposition leader, but why is he always given the vacuum to speak on every national time of commemoration? And they call it ” address to the nation.” No where in the world that happens. Please examine and explain to those of highly wondering why such is happening in Sierra Leone 🇸🇱
