In a sharp response dated November 5, 2024, former All People’s Congress (APC) presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara publicly criticized the party’s National Secretary General (NSG), Lansana Dumbuya Esq over a request to vacate his office at the APC headquarters.
Kamara condemned the NSG’s emphasis on logistical issues rather than addressing what he described as the APC’s critical challenges and future direction.
Kamara’s statement follows an initial letter from the NSG requesting his office keys. He rebuked the NSG for sidelining broader issues raised in his previous correspondence, which addressed concerns about the APC’s path forward and internal cohesion.
According to Kamara, the NSG’s response failed to engage with pressing party matters, focusing instead on “trivial” matters related to office logistics.
“To place an office and key issue above the fight for electoral justice… seems rather baffling to me,” he noted, referencing the unresolved issues surrounding Sierra Leone’s June 2023 elections.
Despite his defeat, Kamara affirmed that his role as APC flagbearer remains active as he continues to seek what he calls “electoral justice.”
The APC formally contested the election results after receiving only 17.15% of the vote, alleging irregularities and lack of transparency. Kamara emphasized that his leadership remains essential to the party’s ongoing legal and political efforts until the issue is resolved or a new National Delegates Conference is held.
Kamara’s response also highlighted his broader vision for the APC, expressing dedication to the party’s supporters and reaffirming his commitment to the Tripartite Committee’s recommendations, which address unity and governance reforms.
He argued that his leadership is not merely a matter of occupying an office but rather advancing the APC’s mission in challenging political conditions.
The clash has stirred debate within the APC, raising questions over the party’s unity, leadership transition, and strategy moving forward. Kamara called on party leaders to set aside personal differences and focus on the APC’s mission to uphold the rights of Sierra Leoneans amid what he described as “severe political and socioeconomic struggles.”
