LUNGI, 5th June 2026 – President Julius Maada Bio today led a high-level delegation of government stakeholders and development partners on a site visit to Lungi to inspect ongoing construction work at the proposed ECOWAS International Conference Centre.
The visit comes as part of Governmentโs push to fast-track key infrastructure projects that will position Sierra Leone as a regional hub for diplomacy, investment, and cultural exchange.
Accompanied by the Chief Minister, Information Minister, and other senior officials from relevant ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs), as well as representatives from partner institutions, President Bio toured the expansive construction site where massive groundwork and structural work are already underway.
Engineers and project managers briefed the delegation on progress made so far, timelines, and the scale of the facility, which is designed to host major international summits, including future ECOWAS Heads of State meetings.
โThis project is not just about a building. It is about Sierra Leoneโs place in West Africa and the world,โ President Bio stated during the tour. โWe are creating infrastructure that matches our ambition, to attract investment, host high-level dialogue, and showcase what Sierra Leone can do.โ
Government stakeholders praised the pace of work and the coordination among contractors and oversight agencies. Partners reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the project through technical and financial assistance.
Once completed, the ECOWAS International Conference Centre is expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and strengthen Sierra Leoneโs capacity to host regional and global events in Lungi, directly linking the new facility to the recently upgraded airport infrastructure.
The site visit underscores Governmentโs continued focus on delivering flagship projects under the Big 5 Agenda, with infrastructure and regional integration as key pillars.
Further updates on the projectโs completion timeline and capacity will be released as work progresses.
