The Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) has expressed serious concern over a video circulating on social media, in which Kadiru Kaikai threatens the security of the state.
In the video, Kai Kai claims he will wage war if he is not elected President of Sierra Leone in 2028.
“Such a statement is unacceptable and has no place in our democracy,” stated the PPRC, emphasizing the severity of the threat.
The Commission highlighted that this declaration is a blatant violation of section 39 (1) (d) of the Political Parties Act No. 25 of 2022.
This section clearly states, “A Political Party, including its members, supporters, candidates, and operatives shall not be involved in the use of incendiary and inciting statements, including hate speech against a political party or its opponent.”
The PPRC commended the Sierra Leone Peoples Party (SLPP) leadership for their prompt condemnation of the video.
“We appreciate the swift response from the SLPP in denouncing this incendiary statement,” the Commission noted.
The Commission has now urged the Office of National Security and the Sierra Leone Police to investigate Kai Kai and take appropriate legal actions.
“We are calling on the relevant authorities to investigate this individual and take necessary steps as provided by law,” the PPRC urged.
In closing, the PPRC reminded all registered political parties in Sierra Leone to conduct their activities within the legal framework.
“We admonish all political parties to continue with their normal business within the confines of the laws of Sierra Leone,” the statement concluded.
