The Head of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), ACP Allieu Jalloh, has announced the arrest of ten suspected armed robbers, including their alleged ringleader, Alpha Mohamed Massaquoi, commonly known as “Cocomed.”
According to police, the gang is believed to be behind a string of violent robberies in Waterloo, Sumaila Town, Goderich, and Juba Hill. During the attacks, the suspects reportedly fired live rounds and carted away cash, jewellery, and other valuables.
Investigations led to the recovery of several firearms, stolen jewellery, and military uniforms—some of which were found buried underground in an apparent attempt to hide the evidence.
ACP Jalloh described the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against organised crime, stressing that the arrests would help restore public confidence in the safety of affected communities.
In a bizarre twist, one of the suspects, after being taken into custody, allegedly demanded that police “put food in the jail,” insisting they could not be detained without being fed.
Police say the suspects are in custody and will face charges ranging from armed robbery to illegal possession of firearms. Investigations are ongoing.
