Freetown, Sierra Leone — August 27, 2026: The National Revenue Authority (NRA) has announced new procedures for importers and exporters seeking to move containers out of the Queen Elizabeth II Quay on Sundays.
According to a public notice issued by the NRA on Thursday, August 27, only importers and exporters intending to exit containers from the quay on Sundays are required to notify the Commissioner General of the NRA at least 48 hours before the intended Sunday operation.
The notice said the requirement follows resolutions reached during the Chief Minister’s Problem Solving Sessions held in July 2026, aimed at addressing challenges affecting trade and port operations.
Supporting documents required
The NRA said requests for Sunday container exits must include a comprehensive list of all containers intended for exit, along with relevant supporting documents.
These documents include:
- Bills of Lading
- Commercial Invoices
- Payment Receipts
- Release Orders
- Declaration references
The authority said the documentation will help facilitate the review, reconciliation and reporting process.
To ensure timely consideration and approval, the NRA strongly advised importers and exporters to submit their notifications no later than 12:00 noon on the Friday preceding the Sunday scheduled for operations.
Priority for operators with 30 or more containers
The NRA further announced that importers and exporters with a minimum of 30 containers will be given priority for Sunday operations.
The designated working hours for the Sunday container exit process will be 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The authority urged all affected businesses, clearing and forwarding agencies, trade operators, port users and members of the public to comply with the new notification requirements to avoid delays.
