Kenema — 26th August 2026 – The Sierra Leone Police in Kenema Division has intensified its visibility policing strategy with a comprehensive combination of foot and vehicular patrols across the principal streets of Kenema City, aimed at strengthening public safety, deterring crime, and maintaining peace and order.
Prior to the commencement of the exercise, the Local Unit Commander, Kenema Division, *Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Kpulun,* admonished the participating personnel to uphold teamwork, discipline, professionalism, vigilance, and respect for members of the public throughout the operation.
He emphasised that effective policing requires collective responsibility and urged the officers to remain alert, properly coordinated, and responsive to emerging security concerns within their respective areas of deployment.
According to him, the primary purpose of the visibility patrol was to forestall any form of public disorder or criminal activity that could undermine the peace, security, and safety of the people of Kenema. He further stressed the importance of maintaining a strong police presence in public spaces as a proactive measure to reassure residents and deter potential offenders.
Meanwhile, *Deputy Superintendent of Police Edward Kargbo, OSD Regional Coordinator East,* underscored the importance of operational readiness and coordinated deployment.
He encouraged the personnel to maintain a high level of professionalism, noting that visible and disciplined policing contributes significantly to public confidence and creates a safer environment for residents, businesses, and visitors.
Similarly, *Regional Operations Officer East, DSP Abdulai Bangura, urged the officers to remain vigilant and focused throughout the exercise.
He noted that visibility patrols are an essential component of preventive policing, particularly in busy areas where the presence of law enforcement can help deter criminality and respond promptly to situations that may threaten public order.
Consequently, the patrol teams moved through all principal streets of Kenema, with both foot and vehicular patrols providing a sustained police presence across key public areas. The exercise attracted positive attention from members of the public, many of whom applauded the Police for the increased visibility, reassurance, and commitment to protecting lives and property.
At the conclusion of the day’s exercise, the *Regional Police Commander East, ACP Joe Kamanda Bongay,* commended the Local Unit Commander, *Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Kpulun,* the Senior Officers, and all personnel who participated in the patrols for what he described as a successful and professionally executed exercise.
The Regional Police Commander emphasised that effective security management must be proactive rather than reactive. He encouraged officers to sustain the momentum, remain visible, maintain discipline, and continue engaging the public in a manner that strengthens trust and partnership between the Police and the communities they serve.
ACP Bongay further noted that the safety and security of Kenema require the collective efforts of the Police, other security stakeholders, and members of the public.
He therefore called on residents to remain vigilant, cooperate with the Police, and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns through the appropriate channels.
