Freetown, Sierra Leone – 23 June 2025 – The Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Dr. Isata Mahoi, has confirmed the recovery of the newborn baby who went missing from the Ola During Children’s Hospital on 6th June 2025.
In a statement shared on her official social media platform yesterday, Dr. Mahoi revealed that the baby was located in Segbwema, Kailahun District, following an intensive nationwide manhunt.
The discovery was made public after the Inspector General of Police, Mr. William Fayia Sellu, personally informed the Minister.
The case, which sparked widespread concern and national attention, prompted the Sierra Leone Midwives Association and the Sierra Leone Nurses Association to offer a reward of Le100,000 for information leading to the child’s recovery.
According to preliminary police reports, the baby was found in the possession of a woman who claimed she had received the infant from another individual.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
Both the baby and the suspect are being transported to Freetown for further medical checks and formal investigations.
The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs has assured the public that additional updates will be provided in due course by the Sierra Leone Police and other relevant agencies.
Meanwhile, Dr. Mahoi also disclosed that enhanced security measures, including the installation of CCTV cameras, have been implemented at the Princess Christian Maternity Hospital (PCMH) in Freetown to safeguard mothers and newborns in the maternal care unit.
