The National Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NPRA), in collaboration with the National Consumer Protection Commission (NCPC), has commenced a nationwide spot-check exercise at filling stations across the country to ensure compliance with established petroleum industry standards and consumer protection regulations.
The exercise is aimed at verifying the accuracy of fuel dispensing pumps, monitoring the conduct of pump attendants, and ensuring that petroleum products are sold in the correct quantities and at the approved prices.
It also seeks to safeguard consumers against unfair trade practices and guarantee value for money whenever they purchase petroleum products.
As part of the nationwide inspection, joint teams from the NPRA and NCPC are examining pump calibration, service delivery, price display, and overall compliance with regulatory requirements. Filling stations found in violation of the law will be subjected to the necessary regulatory and administrative actions in accordance with existing legislation.
The initiative underscores the commitment of both institutions to promoting fairness, transparency, accountability, and safer market standards within Sierra Leone’s downstream petroleum sector, while ensuring that the rights and interests of consumers remain protected at all times.
