New York, September 21, 2023 – In a significant development during the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, His Excellency Timothy Musa Kabba, engaged in a fruitful bilateral meeting with Hungary.
The meeting resulted in the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) aimed at bolstering cooperation and providing valuable educational opportunities for Sierra Leonean students.
The MOU, signed between Minister Kabba and Hungary’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Péter Szijjárta, underscores the commitment of both nations to strengthen their friendly relations and promote collaboration in the field of higher education. The agreement, which focuses on the Hungaricum Scholarships, is set to commence this October.
Under the terms of the MOU, the Hungarian Government will annually offer up to 50 scholarships to citizens of the Republic of Sierra Leone. These scholarships will enable Sierra Leonean students to pursue studies in Hungary, either in the Hungarian language or in a foreign language. This initiative represents a significant step towards enhancing educational opportunities for Sierra Leonean youth.
Minister Kabba emphasized that the primary objective of the MOU is to facilitate long-term cooperation between Sierra Leone and Hungary, fostering mutual benefits and contributing to the development of a knowledge-based society in both nations.
This collaboration promises to open doors for Sierra Leonean students to access quality education in Hungary and strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
