The Government of Sierra Leone has confirmed that the Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education, Conrad Sackey, will officially announce the 2024 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results on Monday, November 18.
The announcement is set to be broadcast live on the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) at 12:00 PM.
In a statement issued on social media, the Minister encouraged citizens to tune in for the announcement. “Parents, candidates, school authorities, and the general public are hereby encouraged to listen to the announcement,” the Minister noted.
Highlighting the significance of the results, Minister Sackey noted that, “I know this is a moment filled with anticipation and hope for many of our young learners, their families, and the dedicated teachers who have guided them.”
“The journey to this point has required hard work, patience, and perseverance from everyone involved.”
The exam, traditionally held in June or July, is mandatory for students in government or government-assisted schools and is also taken by some private school candidates. In addition to serving as an academic milestone, the BECE is considered a requirement for certain public service roles.
Minister Sackey emphasized the collaborative effort behind this year’s examination process. “Let’s come together to recognize the achievements of our pupils, the commitment of our teachers, and the unwavering support of parents and guardians,” he said.
The BECE, a critical examination for transitioning students from Junior Secondary School to Senior Secondary School, has become a hallmark of Sierra Leone’s educational system. Over the years, the country has witnessed a steady increase in both the number of candidates and the overall pass rate.
The announcement of the results is expected to mark another milestone in the government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen the country’s education system.
