As of Wednesday evening, Ambassador Joseph Boakai, the opposition candidate, is in the lead with 193,041 votes (50.71%), while incumbent President George Manneh Weah closely follows with 187,615 votes, constituting 49.29 percent of the counted results so far.
Weah has secured the lead in multiple counties, including Maryland, Grand Gedeh, Sinoe, Rivergee, Grand Bassa, Bong, and Grand Bassa, although Grand Kru County’s results remain undisclosed.
Conversely, Boakai has surged ahead in the pivotal Montserrado, Nimba, and Lofa Counties. He maintains a strong position in the western cluster, which includes Grand Cape Mount, Bomi, and Gbarpolu Counties.
The Tuesday runoff election, triggered by the failure of both candidates to secure the required majority in the October 10 presidential and general elections, witnessed a notable decrease in voter turnout compared to the initial election.
