In a public statement on X (formerly Twitter), President William Ruto of Kenya has acknowledged the resignation of Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Kenya, Isatu Aminata Bundu.
The announcement comes almost six months after her father, Hon. Dr. Abass Chernor Bundu, stepped down as Speaker of Sierra Leone’s Parliament.
“Kenya and Sierra Leone have strong diplomatic relations based on mutual respect,” President Ruto wrote. “These ties have been strengthened by the commitment of our two countries to pan-Africanism and regional stability. Our two nations are exploring more opportunities for enhancing cooperation in agriculture, education, and tourism, among others.”
President Ruto also expressed his gratitude to Bundu, saying, “Bid farewell to Sierra Leone High Commissioner to Kenya Isatu Aminata Bundu, who has completed her tour of duty in Kenya, at State House Nairobi.”
Bundu’s resignation has been formally accepted by the government of Sierra Leone, as confirmed by a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
A letter from the Director-General and Ambassador-at-Large indicated that her resignation was accepted on behalf of Sierra Leone’s President, Julius Maada Bio.
Isatu Aminata Bundu, who has represented Sierra Leone in Kenya during a time of strengthened diplomatic cooperation, bid farewell to the staff of the Sierra Leone High Commission and the Kenyan president.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that Abdul K. Kargbo, the mission’s most senior diplomatic staff, has been appointed to serve as Chargé d’Affaires in Nairobi, pending further decisions.
In accordance with the Public Procurement Act of 2004, arrangements are underway for Bundu’s repatriation to Sierra Leone. These plans include business class tickets for Bundu and her spouse, economy class tickets for her three children, and provisions for shipping her personal belongings and vehicle.
Her resignation marks a notable shift in Sierra Leone’s diplomatic and political landscape following her father’s exit from public office earlier this year.
