Hundreds of Sierra Leoneans in Lebanon have made urgent appeals to the Sierra Leonean government and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) for immediate repatriation as Israeli military strikes intensify in the region.
Many of those trapped are expressing deep concerns over the ongoing conflict between Israeli forces and Hezbollah, which has led to devastating bombings across Lebanon.
In a video shared widely on social media, Sierra Leonean women can be heard pleading for assistance, highlighting that the building they were staying in had been struck by Israeli forces.
The women stressed the immediate danger they face and urged the Sierra Leone government to take swift action to bring them back home.
Recent Israeli airstrikes, including the bombing of Hezbollah’s central headquarters in Beirut, have resulted in significant destruction, with multiple buildings reduced to rubble.
The Lebanese Health Ministry reports over 720 fatalities in the past week alone. The violence, which erupted as part of the ongoing Israel-Hamas war, has caused widespread displacement, with the International Organization for Migration estimating over 200,000 people have fled their homes in Lebanon.
As tensions escalate, Sierra Leoneans trapped in the conflict zone are growing increasingly desperate, with many fearing for their lives. They continue to call on their government to coordinate an urgent evacuation to ensure their safety.
