Madam Wokie Yokie, another young Sierra Leonean female Soldier has also been commissioned as a Second Lieutenant from the Indian Cadet Academy.
She went through a vigorous training that was both physically and mentally demanding. The training lasted for one year starting from the 26th September 2023 and ended on 7th September 2024.
Second Lieutenant Wokie Yokie attended the Annie Walsh Memorial School and sat to the West African Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and was later enrolled at the Njala University, where she graduated with a BSc Honours in Business Information and Technology.
She was enlisted into the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces on 26th May 2023 and trained as Other Rank at the Armed Forces Training Centre Benguema Barracks. Due to her outstanding performance, discipline and leadership potentials, she was therefore, later selected for a Short-Service Commissioning Course in India, for military training at the Officer’s Training Academy Chennai.
Her Officer Cadet training was divided into two phases. The first phase was the junior phase which consisted of weapons training, map reading, regimentation, drill, leadership, management, service subjects, swimming with jungle warfare and was climaxed with camping and close-quarter battle exercises. Whilst, the second phase was the senior phase which was more of leadership and command, internal security and counter-insurgency, obstacle course and visitations to various military installations within India. She was commissioned by the reviewing officer, Lieutenant General NS Raja Subramani PVSM, Deputy Chief of Armed Staff, Indian Army.
