In a recent update on his official Facebook page, Chief Minister David Moinina Sengeh of Sierra Leone expressed his eager anticipation for an upcoming dialogue set to take place from September 7th to 9th, 2023.
The pivotal dialogue will bring together the Government of Sierra Leone (GoSL) and the All People’s Congress (APC) party, with the involvement of both national and international mediators.
Chief Minister Sengeh underscored the paramount importance of peaceful negotiations and inclusive governance, emphasizing, “Peace is fought for. Governance must involve everyone. I’m happy that the APC leadership itself is looking forward to it.”
This significant development follows the June 24th Elections, during which the APC, as the primary opposition party, declared its non-participation in governance, citing concerns about the transparency and credibility of the elections.
Insider sources have revealed that the APC has outlined a series of demands as prerequisites for their participation in the upcoming dialogue. These demands include the dropping of cases related to the Commission of Inquiry, the restitution of seized properties to former government officials, the release of party members currently in custody, as well as the release of LAJ and Kamarainba.
The impending dialogue between the GoSL and the APC holds immense significance for the future of political stability and constructive engagement within Sierra Leone’s democratic process. Stay tuned for further updates on this critical development.
