New York, September 23, 2025 – President Julius Maada Bio has met with philanthropist Bill Gates in New York to explore new avenues of cooperation aimed at driving sustainable development in Sierra Leone and across West Africa.
The high-level discussion, held on the sidelines of major international meetings, focused on strengthening partnerships in healthcare, agriculture, artificial intelligence, and digital public infrastructure.
President Bio outlined Sierra Leone’s ongoing reforms and innovations in these areas, emphasizing the need for global collaboration to accelerate growth.
Both parties also discussed enhancing cooperation with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to bolster regional resilience and economic opportunities.
President Bio and Gates expressed optimism about building stronger ties, describing the talks as a foundation for long-term benefits for Sierra Leone, West Africa, and the African continent at large.
