Johannesburg, South Africa, 21 November 2025. Sierra Leone’s President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has arrived in Johannesburg to attend the Twentieth Meeting of the Group of Twenty (G20), the annual gathering of leaders from the world’s major economies. Upon arrival at Lanseria International Airport, the President was warmly received by senior officials of the Government of South Africa.
The G20 serves as the world’s leading forum for international economic cooperation, bringing together heads of state and government to deliberate on global priorities including climate action, public health, sustainable economic development, food security, digital governance, international trade, and reducing inequality. Decisions adopted by the forum are grounded in broad consensus and reflect the shared interests of its member states.
This year’s summit is historic, with South Africa holding the G20 Presidency and hosting the meeting, the first time the African continent has hosted the summit.
The event is expected to accelerate Africa’s transformation across trade, industry, technology, and the creative sectors. With rapid demographic growth and increasing economic momentum, Africa continues to strengthen its position in the global economy.
President Bio is expected to join fellow global leaders in high-level deliberations and participate in strategic engagements aimed at deepening diplomatic ties, advancing Sierra Leone’s development agenda, and amplifying Africa’s collective priorities on the world stage.
