President Julius Maada Bio has openly acknowledged the economic difficulties confronting Sierra Leoneans, while assuring the nation of a renewed commitment to development and recovery.
In his 2025 Christmas and Festive Season Message delivered on Christmas Day, the President described the period as one of unity, reflection and compassion.
He extended goodwill to citizens and encouraged values of forgiveness, kindness and collective responsibility as the year draws to a close.
Reviewing the challenges of 2025, President Bio said the year required patience and discipline, noting that his government took tough policy decisions aimed at preserving national stability and positioning the country for long-term growth.
He explained that these decisions followed cabinet deliberations, national consultations and engagements with development partners, all within the framework of democratic governance and the rule of law.
The President reaffirmed his administration’s focus on key sectors, including roads, energy, education and healthcare, stressing that development efforts must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of ordinary citizens.
On the rising cost of living, President Bio admitted that households, traders and farmers continue to face significant pressure but assured the public that their concerns are being addressed.
He cited what he described as encouraging economic indicators, including easing food and fuel prices, a more stable exchange rate and inflation dropping to single-digit levels for the first time in nearly 20 years.
According to the President, the gains are the result of careful economic management and increased local production.
He pledged that government would continue to protect vulnerable groups while pursuing sustained recovery and inclusive national development.
