Bo, Sierra Leone – In a somber event at the Bo School Compound, the late Colonel Wilfred Sao Samai, former Chief of Operations for the Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF), has been received for a Civic Laying-Out Ceremony.
This poignant gathering, orchestrated by Bo District stakeholders, marks the beginning of a journey to eternity for the fallen hero.
Colonel Samai was among the 18 security personnel who met an untimely demise on Sunday, November 26, 2023, during a perilous attempt by retired and serving security personnel to overthrow the government of Sierra Leone.
The tragic incident unfolded at Murray Town Junction, where Colonel Samai and Warrant Officer Class 2 Marrah were ambushed and lost their lives.
Having successfully contained the initial attack at Wilberforce Barracks, Colonel Samai, alongside Commander Joint Force Major General Dauda Alpha, was en route to repel another assault at Cockerill Barracks when the fatal ambush occurred.
The final farewell for Colonel Samai is scheduled for Tuesday, December 19, 2023, in his hometown of Gbangbalia, Bargbo Chiefdom, Bo District.
Sierra Leone mourns the loss of a dedicated military leader, and the Civic Laying-Out Ceremony stands as a testament to his service and sacrifice.
