Freetown, Sierra Leone – In a heartfelt appeal, Mr. Lansma Dumbrya, the National Secretary General of the All Peoples Congress (APC) party, has requested the Interreligious Council of Sierra Leone to coordinate nationwide prayers for the country.
These prayers are to precede the internationally mediated dialogue scheduled by the ECOWAS, AU, and Commonwealth Secretariat from Monday, October 16th to Wednesday, October 18th, 2023.
Mr. Dumbrya, in his letter addressed to the Secretary General of the Interreligious Council, urged the Council to engage religious leaders from both the Christian and Muslim communities.
He proposed that Muslim prayers be held in mosques on Friday, October 13th, 2023 (Juma), and Christian prayers in churches on Sunday, October 15th, 2023.
The APC party emphasizes the critical role of faith in guiding and providing direction to Sierra Leone as the nation approaches a pivotal moment in its political development.
The Interreligious Council, as the governing body for these faiths, is called upon to play a central role in fostering unity and hope in Sierra Leone through these coordinated prayers.
As Sierra Leone prepares to enter this significant phase of political negotiations, the nation awaits the response of the Interreligious Council and the unwavering support of its people in prayer.
