The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has indicted Francis Lavai, a volunteer attached to the National Medical Supplies Agency (NMSA) warehouses at Fawaz Compound, Ferry Junction, and Mansaray Step, Devil Hole, both in Freetown, for misappropriation of public property.
Lavai faces one count of misappropriation of public property contrary to Section 36(1) of the Anti-Corruption Act No. 12 of 2008, as amended by the Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2019.
According to the particulars of the offence, between 1 December 2025 and 31 January 2026 at the Bo District Medical Stores in Bo District, Southern Province, Francis Lavai misappropriated one portable ultrasound machine (black and white convex) valued at Thirty-Eight Thousand United States Dollars (USD 38,000). The machine is the property of the Ministry of Health.
The ultrasound machine formed part of a donated consignment under the Sexual Reproductive Health Programme (SRHP) intended for distribution to Public Health Units in Bo District.
The Commission has reassured the public of its unwavering commitment to protecting public assets and ensuring that all persons entrusted with public property are held accountable in accordance with the law.
