In her first public appearance following her husband’s successful re-election, Dr. Fatima Maada Bio, the First Lady of Sierra Leone, expressed her enthusiasm for the emerging era of female leadership within the country’s governance.
Speaking at the State House, she conveyed her excitement about the Young African Women Congress 2023, a forthcoming event that aims to propel economic growth, spotlight remarkable African women, and bolster investment and tourism prospects across the continent.
“I am excited to witness this new female revolution in governance in Sierra Leone – The Young African Women Congress 2023 will support economic growth, showcase incredible women in the African continent to the world and enhance investment and tourism potential,” she said.
The congress also serves as a platform to recognize President Bio’s commitment to gender equality, particularly through his achievement of implementing a 30% quota for women in governance.
Dr. Fatima Maada Bio called upon all women holding positions in government to come together in pursuit of a shared agenda, one that advances the status and welfare of women in Sierra Leone.
“I call on all female members in governance to unite and pursue a single agenda for the progress of women of this country,” she stated.
Highlighting President Bio’s proactive approach to change, the First Lady emphasized how his administration is placing women at the forefront of Sierra Leone’s governance.
She took the occasion to express her gratitude to the citizens of Sierra Leone for their unwavering support, emphasizing their collective effort to elevate the nation to new heights.
“I want to use this opportunity once again to thank Sierra Leone for all the support we have received to make this country great,” she noted.
