The Western Area Rural District Council (WARDC) has issued a stern warning to residents and groups within the district to refrain from engaging in unlawful activities.
The announcement, made through the Council’s Rural District Police (RDP) Department, is backed by Section 98 of the Local Government Act of 2022.
According to the notice, any individual or group found violating the outlined regulations will face legal consequences, including fines and imprisonment.
Key Regulations
1. Improper Disposal of Garbage
Dumping garbage in streets, public places, or unauthorized locations is strictly prohibited.
2. Unauthorized Use of Streets and Public Spaces
Activities such as storing materials, operating welding shops, or using streets as garages without authorization are banned.
3. Unauthorized Construction
Building activities must not commence without obtaining a valid permit from the Council.
4. Substandard Rental Facilities
Premises rented out without basic facilities such as toilets, bathrooms, and kitchens are deemed illegal.
5. Unauthorized Advertising
Displaying banners, billboards, or other forms of advertising without the Council’s approval is not permitted.
Penalties for Violations
Violators of these regulations risk:
– Fines of up to NLe 5,000.00,
– Imprisonment for up to six months,
– Or both, as per Section 98(2)(a) of the Local Government Act of 2022.
