The National Social Security and Insurance Trust (NASSIT) is preparing to roll out a new mobile application that will make pension and social security services faster, easier and more accessible for pensioners and contributors across Sierra Leone.
The move is part of NASSIT’s ongoing digital transformation drive and aims to cut down on long queues, long-distance travel and extra transport costs that many people currently face when accessing services.
According to a detailed video released by NASSIT on its new pension administration system, the app will offer a range of self-service options so users can handle key transactions from the comfort of their homes.
NASSIT described the change as a major shift in service delivery, promising a system that is “quicker, flexible and easy” to use.
Through the mobile application and self-service portal, contributors and pensioners will be able to:
– Pay contributions
– Track and monitor their funds
– Update personal records
– Plan for retirement
– View statements
– Check the list of dependents
– Project expected benefits
All of this will be possible without visiting a NASSIT office.
The system will also integrate popular mobile money platforms such as Orange Money, Africell Money and QMoney, making it easier for users to access benefits and carry out transactions.
For those without internet access, NASSIT will offer USSD services. Contributors will be able to make payments and get information about their contributions by simply dialling a code on a basic mobile phone.
Direct bank transfers will also be facilitated, reducing the need for beneficiaries to travel to banks and wait in long queues.
Users will receive regular SMS and email notifications about transactions on their accounts, giving them timely updates on contributions and benefits.
Digital identity verification is another key feature. Users will be able to confirm their identities using biometric options such as voice recognition or fingerprints.
NASSIT stressed that the entire transformation has been designed with pensioners and contributors at the centre, with customer satisfaction and easier access as the main goals.
The Trust is urging Sierra Leoneans to stay tuned as it prepares to launch the mobile application. Officials say the new system will bring pension services closer to the people and ease many of the difficulties associated with the traditional way of accessing NASSIT services.
This launch marks another important step in NASSIT’s push to deliver more convenient, efficient and technology-driven services to pensioners and contributors nationwide.
