Freetown, 9th October 2024 — The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has issued a statement debunking a press release circulating on social media, which accuses its staff and examiners of involvement in malpractice.
WAEC described the press release, dated 9th October 2024, as “false, baseless, and a ploy to put the Council to public hatred, as well as to tarnish and destroy its reputation.”
The Council urged the public to disregard the claims, stating, “The press release in circulation is false, baseless, and should therefore be disregarded by the general public.”
Furthermore, WAEC called on individuals responsible for spreading such misinformation to cease their activities, warning against the consequences of misinforming the public.
“Persons who are in the habit of disseminating such malicious press releases are advised to desist from such practices,” the statement read.
WAEC also encouraged journalists and the public to fact-check any information attributed to the Council before sharing it. “Members of the fourth estate and the general public are kindly encouraged to fact-check any information supposedly emanating from the Council before dissemination,” added A. P. Nyandemoh, Administrative Officer I, who signed the statement on behalf of the Acting Head of National Office.
Reaffirming its commitment to upholding integrity and excellence, WAEC assured stakeholders of its dedication to providing trustworthy and high-quality services.
